在传统印象里的都市大教堂前，广场都会用以举办社交和政治集会，商业或娱乐活动,然而，位于上海徐家汇地区的圣依纳爵大教堂,却打破了这样的传统。今天的大教堂既是广场又是一个庄重的花园，它于2021年的春天完工，立面于1910年建造。花园的布局灵感取自于大教堂的建筑平面，传统的中殿和侧廊的建筑格局为水平和垂直的景观元素提供了灵感。广场南北边界的梧桐树列是景观侧廊的柱列，围合一系列较私密的空间，包括喷泉、长凳和红砖铺装，开敞大草坪、黄杨绿篱和季节性色彩成为中心广场的中殿景观和观景走廊。
+ Q5 e$ {! C/ O$ R B- Z) K5 GTraditionally an urban square or plaza that sits in front of a cathedral is used for social and political gatherings, commerce and entertainment activity. However, the St Ignatius Cathedral in the Xujiahui District of Shanghai with a history dating back to 1847 has defied tradition. Today St. Ignatius Cathedral Square is part plaza and part formal garden. With construction completed in spring of 2021, the facade of Shanghai St. Ignatius Cathedral, built in 1910, is now in full view framed by rows of Plantanus trees flanking both sides of the plaza. The layout of the gardens are influenced by the plan of St. Ignatius Cathedral itself with the traditional NAVE and AISLE architectural components an inspiration for both horizontal and vertical landscape elements. Plantanus trees placed on the northern and southern edges of the plaza are columns within the landscape AISLE that support a series of intimate spaces encompassing fountains, benches and red brick paving. Grand open lawns, Boxwood and seasonal color become the central landscape NAVE and viewing corridor in the center of the plaza.
