The commission for the pier in the Weerwater in Almere dates from 1999. The pier was part of three commissions for the city center of Almere including the pier, an apartment block 'The Wave' and a bridge. The last two projects were completed in 2004. The design of the original pier, from 200 meters long, consisted of a wooden runner build up from 10 strips of 0.8 meters wide, which sequentially and wavy proceeded from a height of 1050 mm above the water to a height of 450 mm above the water. Originally the pier was intended as an access road to a restaurant in the Weerwater at the end of the pier, a route leading from the city center to a place where you can sit and eat very close to the water. The restaurant turned out to be not profitable and therefore only half of the pier was realized. The incorporation of the P!T museum in the new city center was the reason to build the remaining part of the pier。" L6 O2 n* z) P( V) W
